PTSD Therapy in London with Dr Comfort Shields (CPsychol, MPhil Oxon)
PTSD can make the world feel narrower — as though your mind is always scanning for danger, even when life is “fine on paper.”
Therapy can help you regain steadiness, sleep, intimacy, and a felt sense of safety in your body and relationships.
What PTSD can look like
PTSD is not only “flashbacks.” It can show up as a nervous system that struggles to come back to baseline — sometimes long after the event has passed.
Common signs
- Intrusion: unwanted memories, nightmares, flashback-like moments.
- Hyperarousal: vigilance, irritability, sleep or concentration difficulties.
- Avoidance: avoiding reminders, emotions, or situations.
- Mood & meaning changes: shame, guilt, numbness, loss of trust.
- Body symptoms: panic, dissociation, shut-down, chronic tension.
PTSD and Complex PTSD (C-PTSD)
PTSD often follows a specific traumatic event or series of events.
Complex PTSD (C-PTSD) is more commonly linked to prolonged, repeated, or relational trauma,
such as childhood abuse, domestic abuse, coercive control, or chronic neglect.
