Dialectical Behavior Therapy and Skills Training

Individual Therapy and DBT Skills Training

Thoughtful, structured support for emotional regulation, relational stability, and lasting change.

I offer weekly individual psychotherapy for adults who struggle with intense emotions,
unstable relationships, impulsive coping, chronic overwhelm, self-harm urges, or patterns often associated
with Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD/EUPD).

For some people, emotions can feel too fast, too large, or too difficult to contain. Reactions may happen
before there is time to think. Relationships can become painful, volatile, or exhausting. A person may find
themselves caught in repeated cycles of distress, rupture, shame, and repair.

Individual therapy offers a consistent, containing space in which to begin making sense of these patterns.
It can help you better understand your internal world, recognise triggers earlier, build greater emotional
steadiness, and work towards safer, more manageable ways of coping and relating.

This work may be undertaken on its own or alongside the DBT skills training group.

Individual Therapy

My approach is psychologically minded, relational, and tailored to the needs of the individual. Depending on
what is most helpful, therapy may include supportive exploration of emotional patterns, relationships, trauma
history, attachment dynamics, and self-destructive coping, while also drawing on practical tools from
Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) where appropriate.

For some clients, DBT skills training can also be incorporated into individual therapy if desired,
particularly where a more personalised and one-to-one approach feels more suitable.

Individual Therapy Format

  • 50-minute weekly session
  • £150 per session
  • Paid monthly in advance

DBT Skills Training Group

I also offer an online DBT skills training group for adults who would benefit from a more
structured, skills-based approach to emotional regulation and interpersonal functioning.

DBT (Dialectical Behaviour Therapy) is a well-established, evidence-based treatment designed
to help people manage overwhelming feelings, reduce impulsive or self-destructive behaviours, and build more
stable and effective ways of coping.

The group teaches the four core DBT skill areas:

Mindfulness

Learning how to slow down, observe your internal state, and become more aware of thoughts, feelings, and urges
without immediately reacting.

Distress Tolerance

Developing safer ways to get through moments of crisis, emotional flooding, or acute distress without making
things worse.

Emotion Regulation

Understanding emotions more clearly and learning practical ways to reduce emotional chaos and increase stability.

Interpersonal Effectiveness

Building greater confidence in communication, boundaries, self-respect, and the ability to navigate
relationships more effectively.

These skills can be deeply helpful for people who feel frequently overwhelmed, reactive, stuck in repeated
crises, or unsure how to respond differently when emotions intensify.

Group Format

  • Weekly 90-minute online group
  • £110 per session
  • Paid monthly in advance
  • Minimum of 3 participants required for the group to begin
  • Maximum of 8 participants
  • Initial minimum commitment of 12 weeks
  • 4 weeks’ notice required to leave the group
  • Missed sessions are charged in full

The group may be especially helpful alongside individual therapy, but some participants may
also choose to join the group while continuing individual work with another therapist.

Who This May Help

  • Emotional intensity or rapid emotional shifts
  • Difficulty calming down once upset
  • Impulsive or self-destructive coping
  • Self-harm urges
  • Unstable or conflictual relationships
  • Fear of abandonment
  • Chronic emptiness
  • Repeated interpersonal crises
  • Patterns associated with Borderline Personality Disorder or severe emotional dysregulation

Where there is significant complexity, I may recommend an initial consultation first to think carefully about
the most appropriate treatment structure.

A Serious and Supportive Commitment

Whether undertaken through individual therapy, DBT skills training, or both, this work is not about quick fixes.
It is about developing a deeper understanding of your patterns and building the capacity, over time, to respond
to yourself and others differently.

Meaningful change usually requires consistency, honesty, and willingness to practise new ways of thinking,
feeling, and relating. Over time, this work can help people feel less at the mercy of their emotions, less
trapped in repeated crises, and more able to build a life that feels steady, self-respecting, and worth living.
