“IT IS NOT ONLY WHAT WE HAVE EXPERIENCED, BUT HOW THOSE EXPERIENCES HAVE BEEN HELD IN MIND, THAT SHAPES HOW WE LIVE.”

ADHD or Something Else? Private Assessment in London & Online

For when a diagnosis feels close—but not quite right

Many of the people I see arrive with a similar uncertainty.

“I’ve been told it might be ADHD… but something about it doesn’t fully explain me.”

They recognise difficulties with focus, organisation, or emotional regulation.
Perhaps they have already completed screening questionnaires, or even received a diagnosis.

And yet, there is a sense that something more is going on.

Patterns that feel tied to stress, relationships, or earlier experiences.
Moments of disconnection, overwhelm, or emotional intensity that do not sit neatly within a single label.

This assessment is designed for that space of uncertainty.

When ADHD Doesn’t Fully Explain Things

ADHD is increasingly recognised—and for many people, it is an important and accurate diagnosis.

But attention and emotional regulation can also be shaped by:

  • chronic stress or burnout
  • trauma or unresolved experiences
  • dissociation (including zoning out or feeling disconnected)
  • attachment patterns formed early in life

These can look very similar on the surface.

Without a careful, in-depth assessment, it is easy to receive an explanation that is partially right—but incomplete.

The aim here is not to replace one label with another, but to understand the full picture.

A Different Kind of ADHD Assessment

Most ADHD assessments are designed to answer one question:

“Does this person meet criteria for ADHD?”

This assessment asks a broader and more clinically meaningful question:

“What is actually shaping this person’s attention, emotions, and inner experience?”

It is a comprehensive psychological assessment that integrates:

  • attention and executive functioning across your lifespan
  • developmental and family history
  • stress, trauma, and emotional experiences
  • dissociation and patterns of disconnection
  • relationship patterns and emotional regulation

This allows for a more accurate and nuanced understanding—particularly where more than one factor may be involved.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if I have ADHD or if it is something else?
Many people experience difficulties with focus, organisation, or emotional regulation that can arise from different causes. ADHD is one possibility, but similar patterns can also be shaped by trauma, stress, or dissociation. This assessment is designed to clarify what is contributing to your experience, rather than assuming a single explanation.

Do you provide a formal ADHD diagnosis?
Yes, where appropriate. The assessment considers ADHD carefully, alongside other possible factors. If ADHD is present, this will be clearly indicated. If not, you will receive a detailed understanding of what may better explain your symptoms.

What makes this different from a standard ADHD assessment?
Most ADHD assessments focus primarily on whether diagnostic criteria are met. This assessment takes a broader psychological approach, considering developmental history, trauma, dissociation, and relational patterns, in order to arrive at a more complete understanding.

Can I use this assessment for medication?
If ADHD is identified, the report can support discussions with a psychiatrist regarding medication. If needed, I can also advise on appropriate next steps for further medical assessment.

How long does the process take?
Once pre-assessment materials are completed, appointments are typically available within 1–2 weeks. Reports are usually provided within 7–10 days following the assessment.

Is the assessment done online or in person?
Assessments are available both in person in the Harley Street Medical District and online via secure video consultation.
